That would depend on which course you’re applying for or which university you’re applying to.

For example, for courses like MIS or Data Science, having some work experience would definitely improve your admission chances at top universities.

However, for most engineering courses, work experience is not mandatory. It is just one way to showcase your practical experience in the field. You can still apply and get top university admits if you have relevant research experience through projects/internships.
